5040 Yonge Street
Saturday, November 02, 2024
On November 2, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the George Weston Recital Hall will be ringing with music of defiance. From the streets of Hong Kong to the plains of Ukraine, from the turmoil of Iran to the struggle in China, this concert brings together the oppressed across the globe. Ricker Choi (www.rickerchoi.com) will perform his piano composition "Hong Kong Rhapsody", accompanied by images of the 2019 Hong Kong protest projected on a 36-foot screen. Performance artist Loretta Lau (www.waitinglorettalau.com) will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Ricker will also be performing protest music from Iran, arranged for solo piano. Ukrainian soprano Antonina Ermolenko (www.antoninaermolenko.com) and pianist Oksana Hahn (www.elitepianostudio.ca/biography) will sing melodies of hope. Pianist Chloe Sun will join Ricker Choi in performing works by Chopin. 70% of net proceeds will be donated to Bonham Tree Aid and the remaining 30% to Amnesty International.
